John shared a foundational belief of our founder, William E. O’Neil: construction is a relationship business—with clients, partners, and our people. “Staying true to our values, living our values, is probably the core to our business,” shared John. “If we start to deviate from that, we're going to lose who we are.” That value has shaped our company for generations. In 2020, under the leadership of former CEO Bill O’Neil (1945–2025) and current Chairman Brian Ramsay, W.E. O’Neil became a 100% employee-owned company. As John shared: “One of [Bill’s] legacies was ensuring that employees had a real stake in the company.” As we enter our second century, John is focused on strengthening relationships, developing future leaders, and leveraging data and technology to support long-term, sustainable growth. “Marking our centennial in business this year, my mantra is developing the team to build this company to last for another 100 years,” shared John. “That starts with strengthening connections, deepening relationships, and creating meaningful opportunities for our younger employee-owners—because they are the future, and we owe it to them to get it right.” Read more about this ENR piece and John’s vision for W.E. Take a look! Our CA Safety Committee visited The James, a #SeniorLiving community in Irvine, CA last week! They started the day with a project overview from the team, followed by a site walk, and wrapped it up with key safety takeaways. These quarterly visits bring fresh eyes to support a safe and successful start to construction. Once complete, The James will be a 429,850-square-foot, eight-story, Type I-A Class-A senior living community. The development will feature 210 independent living units, 110 assisted living units, and 30 memory care units. Residents will enjoy an array of high-end amenities, including a therapy pool and spa, a fully equipped wellness gym, yoga and art studios, a theatre, and beautifully designed bar and lounge spaces. Outdoor courtyards will be outfitted with grilling areas, fire pits, and ambient seating. This project is strategically located in the heart of Orange County and just steps from The District at Tustin Legacy. In celebration of our 100th anniversary, we invited the kids in our lives to answer the question: "What do you think your parent (or aunt, grandparent, etc.) does for work?"
